Listening to the melodies of ages long past is, indeed, like opening the door of the house where we spent our childhood after years away from home. There we come across another ‘world of meanings’ which we had lost. Through the reality which no longer belongs to us, but which is not ‘outside of us’ either… History is filtering our own story throughout the depths of innumerable stories.
On our first album we followed the path of songs whose roads intersected in the Mediterranean. We started our journey giving voice the songs of kings and peasants, the songs of the wise and the warriors, the songs of all the people who drifted from the East and the West and on the tides between these two shores. We gathered the melodies, sounds and lost languages of the various climates of the Old World, sometimes from manuscripts and sometimes from oral traditions.
We hope that we were able to illuminate a piece, however small, of the peerless and colorful musical mosaic hidden beneath the dark cover of the medieval image.
